Karachi: Protests and Political Tension

  • JI Sit-ins: Following a heavy-handed police crackdown on Saturday, Jamaat-i-Islami (JI) has announced sit-ins at 10 key locations across the city today, including Sharea Faisal and the Superhighway. This is in protest of the “Red Zone” violence where police used tear gas to disperse workers.
  • Gul Plaza Relief: Chief Minister Murad Ali Shah visited the KCCI to review compensation for the victims of the Gul Plaza tragedy. Over 1,100 cheques of Rs500,000 are being distributed to affected shopkeepers.
  • NAB Breakthrough: The National Accountability Bureau (NAB) Karachi announced the recovery of government land worth Rs1.5 trillion in Sindh, with plans to convert some of this land into public parks.
