New Motorway Rule: Unsafe Vehicles to Be Stopped

The government has ordered strict vehicle fitness checks for all vehicles entering Pakistan’s motorways. The directive comes after a deadly accident on the M-9 Motorway near Karachi.

Federal Minister for Communications Abdul Aleem Khan has instructed authorities to ensure that vehicles with worn-out or unsafe tyres are not allowed to enter motorway networks. The move aims to reduce accidents caused by mechanical failure.

Tyre Condition Now Under Scrutiny

Under the new order, motorway officials will check tyre condition before allowing vehicles onto controlled-access highways. Vehicles with weak, expired, or damaged tyres may be denied entry.

Motorway police already enforce speed limits and lane discipline under National Highways and Motorway Police rules. This latest step adds a stronger focus on vehicle fitness, especially tyre safety.

What Drivers Should Do

Motorists planning long trips should inspect tyre tread, air pressure, and the overall condition of their vehicle before reaching motorway toll plazas. Non-compliant vehicles could face fines or be turned away.

Authorities are expected to share further implementation details soon. Until then, drivers are advised to ensure their vehicles meet basic safety standards before entering motorways.
