Thalian Interchange to Begin Next Week

  1. Rawalpindi Ring Road (R3) Connection
    • This is the parent project. The Thalian Interchange is the final piece of Phase 1, connecting the 38.3 km loop from Rawat to the motorway.
  2. M-2 Motorway Integration
    • The interchange acts as a strategic “merger” point where traffic from the Ring Road enters the Lahore-Islamabad Motorway (M-2) near the Islamabad International Airport.
  3. Frontier Works Organisation (FWO)
    • The FWO is the lead contractor for this Rs. 5 billion component, and they have been formally instructed to mobilize and begin work immediately.
  4. Land Acquisition (358 Kanals)
    • A key recent update involves the acquisition of an additional 358 kanals of land (on top of the initial 557 kanals) due to design changes aimed at reducing traffic congestion.
  5. Lahore Ring Road Toll Model
    • The administration has announced that the Thalian Interchange (and the R3 project) will adopt the e-tag system and toll rates (proposed at Rs. 80 per vehicle) used by the Lahore Ring Road.
